Public talks I have given

Streaming Systems

The following list of talks involve delve into the work I've done with streaming systems, particularly Apache Kafka and Apache Flink.

I presented the reliability and performance insights that are gained when you apply Fault Tree Analysis to Apache Flink. Talk recording can be found here.

Kafka Summit Europe 2021

How to Mutate Your Immutable Log: This talk introduced strategies that can be applied to recover faster from bad changes to your Streaming data pipelines.

Kafka Summit 2020

Can Kafka Handle a Lyft Ride: This talk presented a multi-Kafka cluster architecture fronted by a proxy. I co-presented with my colleage Can Cecen. Can and I delivered a similar talk at Productionizing Big Data meetup.

SRECON 2019 EMEA Plenary Talk

Fault Tree Analysis Applied to Apache Kafka: This was a slightly more refined version of the talk I gave at the two Kafka summits that same year.

Kafka Summit NYC and London 2019

Bulletproof Kafka with Fault Tree Analysis: This talk explained how to make Kafka reliable.

Building Reliable Systems - Lyft San Francisco Meetup October 2019

Reliable Apache Kafka® on Kubernetes on the Cheap: This is a talk I delivered to provide a blueprint to make a Kafka deploy possible on Kubernetes with either Daemon Sets or Stateful Sets.

Kafka Summit SF 2019

Production Ready Kafka on Kubernetes: I authored this talk, which was delivered by the manager of my team because I couldn't attend due to a scheduling conflict.

CI/CD and Security

The following talks cover some of the work I've done in the CI/CD and Security space.

San Francisco Jenkins Area Meetup October 2016

Self-service Secure Test and Release Pipelines: This was one of the biggest contributions I made to Salesforce. Imagine being able to create a security-approved CI/CD pipeline without having to know the ins and outs of Jenkins, Travis, CircleCI, etc. We call them managed pipelines today.

Jenkins World 2018

Auto Cascading Security Updates Through Docker Images: This was my first full length conference talk slot of my career.

Devoxx Belgium 2018

Auto Cascading Security Updates Through Docker Images: Slightly abridged version of the talk delivered at Jenkins World. My live demo slipped up during this rendition as well.

All Things Open 2019

I gave another rendition of the Auto Cascading Security Updates Through Docker Images talk at this conference, but it wasn't recorded.
